Clinics

Antenatal Clinic

The community midwife and doctors provide antenatal and postnatal care. If the availability of the midwife is not convenient, please make an ordinary appointment to see the doctor.

Well Baby Clinic

Alternate Wednesdays 1.00 - 2.30pm

The baby clinics are run by the health visitor and practice nurse for child development checks and immunisations and allow an opportunity to discuss other problems e.g. sleeping, feeding and child health worries. This clinic is for well babies only.

Asthma Clinic

This is run by the practice nurse in conjunction with the doctors, by appointment only.

Diabetic Clinic

This is run by the practice nurse in conjunction with the doctors, by appointment only.

Family Planning

The doctors and practice nurse will provide contraceptive advice, breast checks and cervical smears during normal surgery hours.

Well Woman Clinics

This clinic is run by the doctors for smears, postnatal checks and discussion for women's health issues.

Minor Surgery

Dr Stratford-Martin carries out minor surgical procedures at the surgery by appointment and the doctors will be happy to advise you on this.

Non-NHS Examinations

A charge is made for all private work undertaken by the practice. This includes sick notes, passport applications, holiday cancellation letters and other services that are not included in the General Medical Services provided. BMA-recommended rates are applied. Please make your request in good time; they can take up to a month to process. Ask at reception if you have any queries.

Patients Over 75 Years

If you are aged 75 years or over, you should be seen annually either by your doctor, the practice nurse, district nurse or health visitor. This can be arranged at the surgery or, if that is not possible, a home visit will be arranged.

Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations

Please make an appointment at least two weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS. A list of these charges is held at reception.

Smoking Cessation Clinic

Run by a trained advisor, this clinic is held every Tuesday between 4.30 - 6.00pm and lasts for six weeks. Application to join should be made at reception, where they can give more details on what is involved. At the clinic, attendees will be advised on the various products and methods available and then assigned to a regime of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) considered most suitable for them.

Professional advice and support is given throughout and even beyond the 6-week programme.

Flu Vaccinations

An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and residents of nursing and rest homes.

Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment. If you are unable to attend the surgery, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility.

Yellow Fever Vaccinations

Sterndale Surgery is an authorised Yellow Fever vaccination centre.
